I’m Timothy A. Ratner, I’m a LEGO fanatic and amateur film-maker. ‘ThatGuyWhoLikesLEGO’ is my alter-ego, it comes from the idea of: http://www.thatguywiththeglasses.com/ Which I am a fan of.
I was with my family at Wal-Mart, getting the necessities and stuff, it was 1999 I believe… I asked my mom to take me to the toys section, I was passing by isles, girls dolls, action figures, and then I caught eye of the almighty – LEGO section. I went there, and I was in awe of all the cool LEGO sets on the shelves, my mom said I could get the #5902 River Raft set, from the Adventures line. We went home and my mom opened the box for me, and cut the bag of pieces open, I got hold of the INSTRUCTIONS. I was confused at first, but then I realized they were images that looked like the pieces themselves, so I followed the pictures, my first LEGO set, done.
Surprisingly, I still have the instructions to the set on my desk, in pretty good condition. Later on, I got more LEGO sets, and bulk brick tubs/buckets, my LEGO collection grew, and grew, and grew… I am now the huge LEGO fan you see today.
The film-making side of me came from watching many, many films by Steven Spielberg. He’s such a great inspiration to me. I loved E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, and the Indiana Jones series. My current favorite film is A Clockwork Orange by Stanley Kubrick. It’s a violent and disturbing film, but camera-work and humor is great.
I make brickfilms, brickfilms are stop-motion animation with LEGO, or any other building toys(e.g. Mega Bloks, Best-Lock, etc.), it is merely practice for my future live-action filming career.
